At the core of my photography is my life of travel and the textures, history and style that I absorb from my surroundings. I collect moments, details and ideas from ancient customs to layer my stories– from the Silk Road to Ethiopia, India and beyond. I take photographs with my painter’s eye, sculpt still lifes and collage with inspiration from my childhood in vibrant 1980s Los Angeles, my early career in Paris and my current life in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

Jessica Antola was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, and is a dual citizen of Canada and the US. Her photography career began during her years living in Paris, where she shot portraits, fashion, and global travel stories for a wide range of advertising and editorial clients. Antola’s travels have always informed and inspired her work – from West Papua to Antarctica, from Tibet to Myanmar, and Central Asia to Sub-Saharan Africa, the focus of her monograph, Circadian Landscape (Damiani, 2018). The book chronicles the people and places Antola encountered while traveling through Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivorie, Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Ethiopia, exploring people’s connection to their environments. Her imagery has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions internationally. She received her BFA from Cornell University and her degree in photography from the Art Center College of Design.
